Southern Utah’s Growth and Development

Southern Utah’s Growth and Development

Southern Utah and Washington County are recognized as one of the fastest growing areas in the entire nation.   Leaders have an obligation to plan and allow for responsible, measured growth with adequate infrastructure, such as the Northern Corridor, in place to support our population. Growth can positively affect our economy and job prospects for residents as businesses and employers look to locate their company headquarters in southern Utah.

Projects like the Lake Powell Pipeline are good investments in future growth and are critical to sustaining life in our beautiful desert region. Conservation efforts are extremely important, and Washington County leaders are strongly emphasizing the importance of conserving this most precious resource, and regardless of the outcome of the Lake Powell Pipeline, residents will need to continue their efforts at conserving water. In addition to our conservation efforts, I believe we cannot afford to lose our precious water rights to other bordering states.  We must assert and protect ownership of water that rightfully belongs to Utah.

Affordable housing is integral to our growth and economy.  I’m committed to supporting developers and Utah’s local governments who work together to provide housing for residents at all income levels. I look forward to seeing the diverse and innovative ways we will meet the housing needs of our citizens in southern Utah.

The history of our state and county is replete with examples of leaders with vision who planned for population growth that would inevitably come. It is possible to provide for population growth while maintaining our quality of life through careful planning and proper investment.
